WHAT IS THIS?
Kentucky High School Daily is a new premium newsletter covering high school basketball (boys and girls) and football across our state. It’s owned and written by Joshua Moore, a journalist who’s covered KY high school sports for almost two decades.
This is a sneak peek of Tailgater, a truncated in-season Saturday edition that is exclusive to premium subscribers beyond the 5x a week newsletter.
Tailgater will feature overnight scores, links and some non-sports media recommendations/thoughts (mostly movies, cause I love those and just wanna keep the spirit of cinema alive, y’know?).

🍿 MEDIA CORNER
My wife and I watched two movies together this week, Backrooms and Evil Dead Burn. The latter’s a straight-up horror flick with some gnarly gore, even by standards of the Evil Dead franchise (Stephanie’s all-time favorite series). Backrooms, adapted from a YouTube found-footage series that was inspired by an internet meme, played more as an existential thriller than pure horror for me, but YMMV. I enjoyed both but I’d definitely give the edge to Backrooms if you only have time for one this weekend. (They’re both currently on HBO Max, which for my money is the best streamer in the biz.)
We covered the 2001 drama O this week on Not Another 2001 Movie Podcast. It’s an overlooked adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello set against the backdrop of a high school basketball championship pursuit. It stars Josh Hartnett, Julia Stiles and Mekhi Phifer.
Am hoping to carve out time this weekend to see The History of Concrete at The Kentucky Theatre, a place I’d spend far more time at if I didn’t have a 3-year-old lol.
